Definition: Troll

A troll is a person who seeks out quarrels for upsetting people on the internet. They do this by posting inflammatory or off-topic messages in an online community with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion, often for the troll’s own amusement.

Internet trolling consists of people who make deliberately offensive of provocative posts online. University researchers from Cornell and Stanford conducted a study which helped identify internet trolls.
